Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Product Description

You ARE Samus with Wii control! By moving around with the Nunchuk and aiming Samus's gun with the Wii Remote, you'll do more than look through the eyes of Samus—you'll experience a quantum leap in first-person control. Fire on the run, grapple enemies and yank off their shields, or manipulate machinery with movements of the Nunchuk and Wii Remote—it all adds up to a level of immersion only possible on the Nintendo Wii, and the best first-person controls on any platform, period. ** Corruption is everywhere... Dark Samus, Samus's longtime nemesis, is corrupting entire planets by launching enormous seeds called Leviathans into them. Samus must travel to multiple planets—each with unique alien landscapes and dangers—to fight the corruption and track several other bounty hunters, all the while fighting the spreading Phazon that threatens to take over her body completely. As it corrupts her, it also grants her incredible powers... ** Enter Hypermode! Samus will employ a never-before-used device called a Phazon Enhancement Device (P.E.D) that harnesses the Phazon within her and puts her into a state called Hypermode. In Hypermode, Samus can destroy Phazon impediments and annihilate enemies with superpowered weapons...but it drains her health to use it, and she risks utter corruption if she doesn't empty her Phazon meter within a certain time frame. You'll need to carefully balance your need for ultimate power with the inherent danger of corruption.

A Great Update to a Well-Loved Series4
My review in a nutshell: I love this game, and I recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good, deep action-adventure game, or those who are ready to take the jump into more serious Wii games.

In a slightly larger shell:

MP3 is the first foray for Samus Aran into the world of Wii controls, and I have to say, it is a very successful one. The new controls are more than just a button reassignment, something that the latest Legend of Zelda had a hard time escaping. Unlike that title, though, MP3 was designed from the ground up as a Wii game. There are rumors that Nintendo added the Nunchuck peripheral to the Wii just because the developers of this game asked for it. I believe it. Motion-sensitive and IR tracking tasks are sprinkled throughout the game, and rather than feeling tacked on, the controls feel unique and pull you in. Instead of pressing A to remove that power cell, you pull the sucker out and twist it free. The first time you see your movements doing that, or pulling a shield off of a bad guy, you know you're experiencing something special. IR tracking for the main look movement (moving your helmet) is incredibly accurate and welcome, too. Red Steel is an example of how this can go bad. MP3 is an example of how it can go incredibly good. Do yourself a favor and set the look sensitivity to Advanced, though. It makes all the difference.

On to the story. MP3 is the first Samus game I've felt the need to finish. I played MP1 until about half-way, and got lost among the dozens of arm cannon powers and specially locked rooms. I'm sure if I tried again, I could get through it, but I didn't feel that need to play on. In this game, that need is strong. I loved the story, even if it isn't quite up to par with recent hits like Mass Effect and Bioshock. The whole game is mapped out more clearly, without sacrificing the puzzles that made the first game good. I'm also a fan of the new upgrade scheme. Instead of having a bunch of different attacks, every new upgrade supersedes the last one. It makes playing the game much less stressful. Also, I just want to add that voice-overs (for everybody but Samus) are very well done, and add so much to the game. This game feels alive, instead of the lonely, sterile feeling I got out of MP1. Overall, it is a much more mature, large attempt at storytelling, and it is Retro Studios best effort yet.

Just a quick word about the graphics: They are awesome! I'm talking XBOX at its best, here. I put it on the level of Halo 2. Bloom lighting, beautiful texture work, and expansive worlds work to make the whole experience feel bigger and better. Sure, there are annoying side effects to this beauty: doors that you shoot open may take 10 or more seconds to open in extreme cases, as the huge rooms behind them load. I think it is totally worth it, though, and I am not willing to go back to MP1 graphics just for quick loading.

All in all, this is easily in the top five Wii games to date. A solid story and presentation, along with beautiful, imaginative graphics and a mindblowing control scheme, make this a no-brainer for fans of the series, and a serious contender for any Wii gamer that bought there system for more than Wii Sports. If you are expecting a first-person shooter, you might be mildly disappointed, as this game is equal parts of action, puzzle, and exploration. I think it's a winning formula, though, and my opinion is that all competent gamers should try it out.

GREAT GAME!5
This is my 2nd Metroid, (1st one was prime hunters for ds) and I loved it. It was long lasting (more than 20 hours, without loosing much time) and the gameplay is just INCREDIBLE! Nothing more to say, one of my favorites for wii!

The best the wii has to offer.5
This game is amazing! I am a huge metroid fan and this game is the best of the three prime games (not including prime hunters). It beats the last games in controlls, gameplay, graphics, and fun. Now to the people who have never played metroid before this is not a shoot all the bad guys game or series. It is centered around solving puzzles and exploration but it does have alot more action and storyline than the other three.I will break it down for you.

Graphics: A+ some of the best on the system. better than all the gamecube graphics and PS2 graphics even some xbox and 360 games(not all but some).

Fun:A+ For a metroid fan or a non metroid fan this game is loads of fun.

Controlls:A+ It was a little awkward at first but once you get used to them its a breeze to controll samus.

Speedrunning:F- The metroid series made speedrunning (trying to win a game in a certain amount of time) popular. The metroid prime series is a bust when it comes to speedrunning. I mean you can do it but you don't get a better ending so why try.

Storyline:A+ Alot more story than the last two installments by far. And all in great looking cutscenes.

Action:A+.Some people might want more but i think it is just enough.

Puzzles:A+. I have nearly every metroid game and have played them many times over and the puzzles in this game stump me. But if you stand back and think about them for a minute anyone can figure them out.

Bosses:A+. Nothing to rival Flaghhra in MP1 but still very good.

Boss and enemy AI:A. The AI ranges from very good to running on a predictable but hard to beat cycle

The one problem i have is the fact the game series is getting to popular. Usually when a series gets popular they stop making good sequels and start making remakes with a different name. But if nintendo can keep metroid games coming like this, fresh and new, it might one day rival mario in sales.
All in all a wonderful game.

fun and super easy3
This game is fun. Its very easy so it can be finished quickly with no problems. If you are looking for a challenge this is not the game for you. I'm not sure if it is even possible to lose at this game.

Great for younger Nancy Drew fans!5
I bought this game for my 9-year-old daughter. Her older sister & I enjoy the computer Nancy Drew games, but they are a little too hard/scary for my youngest. She really enjoyed this game -- it is perfect for the girls who want to play the other games, but aren't quite ready. It took her a few days to complete, and was just challenging enough that it kept her interested, but not frustrated.

Not Exactly What I Expected2
I was really interested in a mystery type game with Nancy Drew in it, especially since I grew up on the Nancy Drew mystery books.

I guess I expected too much from this game ... like more real clues and more "sleuthing."

After fiddling around with the repetitive "games" for several hours, I decided to save the game and shut it down and couldn't find any way to save it. Most games like this have a "save" feature. The "manual" wasn't any help, either.

A couple of days later, I got back to it and it wanted to start all over again from the beginning....ugh! I haven't touched it since. I figure I'll trade it in at "Game Stop" next time I pass there.

It wasn't what I had hoped for, but children might find it more entertaining.

I'd love to see some good mind boggling mysteries, with, perhaps, Hercule Poirot or Sherlock Holmes? Even this Nancy Drew one would have been terrific if more thought had been put into it.

Apparently, it was designed for kids and not adults. Oh well. I guess I suckered in for the Nancy Drew name and the interesting picture on the box.

awesomeness5
awesome game, played last years title as well and this year is even better, better graphics and animations, just awesome game overall. highly recommend it to any fan of the series.

Been playing it for a couple days and I am VERY impressed so far!5
First of all, I have been an EA sports gamer for a while now... ever since Madden and NCAA football has been developed. If you look over my past reviews I have written, you will see that I don't hold my opinion back any in regards to hammering a game title. Personally, I feel EA in regards to XBOX360 has gotten cheap and lacked quality over the years. So read this review taking that into account.

As for this game, I have to say, "ABOUT TIME!" EA's NCAA football is finely getting back to the level of its glory days in regards to quality and new inventive game options. For example, there is a new bluff option in the game. Usually when you pick a play and your team is on the field, you want to check what that play looks like before you snap the ball. The problem with doing that is the other team knows what you are calling right before you snap. The new bluff feature allows you to show multiple bluff plays on the field - both runs and passes. You can show multiple bluff plays and throw in your real one to see what it looks like and still not totally give away what you are doing... GREAT ADDITION TO THE GAME!!! The recruiting in the game is a lot better also. This game allows you to now pick and choose what you want to do in regards to recruiting and let the computer take care of the rest. It provides options for people who want a little assistance to allowing the computer to do it all.

The game play finely is smooth again. Running the ball seems more realistic and passing is more fun. I think the game programers of today have finely started to catch up to the XBOX360's technology... finely. The past games just didnt feel right to play. Newer gamers (People who started playing this game in 2006 to now) probably wouldnt notice this however if you have played this game and Madden forever, you'll notice.

About the graphics... the xbox360 has always done pretty well with graphics, however, this year it looks even better. I have to stress one thing though. Having a quality TV makes all of the difference. For example, I have an older model HDTV 27inch that I played this game on and it looked nice, however, when I played this on my 52inch 1080p LCD HDTV... this game is AWESOME!!! Regardless the game is fun no matter what TV you have.

Well I will probably be adding to this review as I play more. So far I have not experienced any freezing moments or glitches in the game, however since the game only came out yesterday, I may change my attitude about that topic. I havent played it enough to give a totally valid opinion. With that said nothing so far.

Daniel

Great game but...4
Ok I was all hyped up to get this game and told myself buy it when the price goes down. I couldn't wait!! I got and rushed home to play it and upon playing I was awwed by the stunning graphics on both HD and regular TV's. The game play was just phenominal, the online dynasty is what I've been waitng for, etc. etc. I could go on but let's keep it short and simple. So why the 4 star rating if this game is so awsome? There is alot of repetative things again like commentary I mean c'mon I get tired of hearing Lee Corso ramble on and on about the same things I have been hearing for the last 5 years (Gooo with the option!) I mean c'mon change it up a little bit for pete's sake... Heck for our sake!

Bravissima!!! Nancy Drew!!!!!!5
I have gotten all the Nancy Drew Series. But this is by far the best and most entertaining and educational!! I have been to Venezia and awaited with much anticipation for the Phantom of Venice and I was not at all disappointed but enthused by everything it has to offer. I speak Italian but found the way they had of teaching others was surely one for the books of learning any language with much ease and enjoyment! I look forward to putting my cat suit on and dancing in the club! lol got many boos at first but became a dancing queen in no time and worked har for my euros to get all those Italian shoes!! I was even happy to pick through the debris throughout Venice to earn extra money. (even though Venice is pretty meticulous) I love Scopa!!! A favorite card game of mines and several times played endless games with "Enrico"! The Phantom of Venice was never boring! It had tons of excitement and puzzles that will keep you on your toes. Che` Brava` Nancy Drew!!! Complimento!! Who ever gets this series will love it! I give it 10 stars if I could!! Buon` Fortuna tutti!!!(Good Fortune Every one!)

Another Great Nancy Drew game!5
IF your like me you have probably played all the Nancy Drews games. (some probably more then once) but if not dont worry. The good thing about these games is you can start at any game and not feel like youve missed anything. Nancy Drew and The Phantom of Venice was a great game. I have to say out of the 18 games there are this one is in my top 5.The Story line is very exciting. An elusive phantom is stealing from Venice. He wears a mask and no one can seem to figure out who he (or she!) is! so thats why the police of Venice call on YOU as Nancy Drew to crack the case. Your undercover and ready to uncover all the secrets Venice has to offer. The characters are fun to talk to, the music is new and goes right along with the Venice theme, the puzzles and games are a challenge and the graphics have progressed so much in the last few games. If you cant wait for the game after this one there is a teaser about the next game after you finish this one...But im not going to tell you what it is! Thats something your have to sleuth out on your own!

NANCY DREW GAMES5
Although my kids haven't played this particular Nancy Drew game before, I would just like to express how very impressed I am with these PC games. In many cases PC games are overrated. However, in this case these quality games are clean, fun, and well worth the price.

Some parts good, others less so3
Just about everything was fine in this kit. I especially like the compact game card cases. I don't use my DS in the car, so I can't really say how well the car adapter works. My only real disappointment was the stylus holder, which would be nice to reduce fatigue holding the tiny stylus, but when I put the stylus in, I could see cracks in the plastic where it fit together, and there was a little bit of slop allowing the stylus to slide back and forth in the tube a little bit when you press down on the stylus tip, which got really annoying when you're trying to do things quickly in a game. I might try making a small block to stick in the tube to make it more solid, but it's not the best design.

LOL, its not a game.5
I enjoy the travel case. The back part where you put you DS is a bit snug though, and you can hold only 6 games in the white traveling case you see in the top right corner. The white thing below it holds Game Boy Advance Games, but if you want that in the white case, you'll have to switch out one of them that holds three DS games. The white case also holds only one stylus, even though there are two slots for them, one is too small, go figure. I like the pen stylus. It holds a regular stylus and makes it more comfortable to play. I'M TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH THE CAR CHARGER THOUGH! omg, so convenient. Also, the little keychain in the middle holds two DS games, and the little thing you see coming off of it at the top of the keychain case, is like a screen cleaner for your DS. convenient. The little blue thing in the corner is pointless. The headphones produce great sound, but of course I've never been a fan of those style of earphones, also like iPod earphones... they fall out of my ear...

Very useful...A Must-have for DS5
The travel kit has been very useful to me. It allows me to take my DS on trips and I can play without bothering other people in the car. The case is Good for storing the DS when I'm not using it. I recommend this to everyone.

Wow3
I never played this game, but my right side of my brain is feeling numb after reading about this game. There is a certain part of information that makes me want to play this.

My brain hurts5
I would give my right arm to be ambidextrous. At least they are doing something that can actually improve themselves . We have most of the educational games and this is one of the most useful. If only you could get an attachment to allow you to drive a monitor or a TV from the card, then your eyes would be allowed to focus at different lengths.

Uneventful But Could Be Helpful3
I got this game to, like everyone else, help balance out the usefulness of each of my hands. I was disappointed that after the initial evaluation exam, the game considered me almost 100% ambidextrous (I think I got 98%). It was disappointing because there is a noticeable difference in my writing between my right (dominate) and my left hand.

After the first exam I kept at it. I went through a couple of the different activities. I now know why I was considered almost 100% from the start. After working to get better scores on each of the activities, there was no noticeable increase in the usefulness of my left hand.

Some of the activities were enjoyable while others lacked any thrill what so ever.

I recommend borrowing this game and seeing if this is for you. If you get almost a perfect score from the first exam, pass over this game because it will not help.

Honestly,3
Brain Age is fun, and if you need something to just keep your mind busy or just something to do for a little while, i recommend it. BUT, i personally dont enjoy it. its fun once it awhile when your bored, but as something to sit down and play for a few hours..NO. It really all depends on what your looking for in this game. something to do for just a few minutes, keep my hand busy - buy it. sit down and play for a few hours, got nothing to do but play my DS - dont buy it. This is just my opinion. Ive read other reviews and most people enjoy it, but this game just wasnt for me. maybe for you?

Brain Age - the cheapest therapist there is5
I am distressed to see Brain Age and Brain Age 2 getting such cutdowns. From those of us with closed head injuries or short term memory problems, it is not only fun but $ thousands of dollars cheaper than suggested therapies. I am doing all the neurological tests (with a co-pay of $1,500) and the only scores that were impressive where the 'games' I played on Brain Age. The therapist was astounded. So was I.

So, if you are just looking for a Suduko game, then buy one at the 7-11. If you are trying to recover or stay younger, go to these games.

I am still in amazement. I love them all!

Brain Age5
This is a nice game moms should like this game for there kids because it trains your brain in a fun way.It also has ds download play which allows you to play up to 8 people using only one game card!

Worthy game for anyone's collection5
This game is one of the best games out for the current generation of consoles. It might be formulaic, but everything is so polished, from the graphics to the gameplay, that it just about the most FUN experience on the PS3.

I'm new to the Ratchet series. I tried it once, years ago on the PS2, but I didn't "get it." I gave up on it after the first level and never bothered to play it again. When I bought the PS3 in the winter of 2007, I wanted to see what the system could do so I picked up this game and gave the series another shot. I'm glad I did. I've gone through the game three times, and plan on going through it again soon.

The graphics are excellent. I wouldn't say they match the "Pixar movie" level...nothing does, but this is as close as we've ever seen. The small details on the outfits and in the environments really show off that the attention given to the game by the developers. I really liked the variety you see in each of the different worlds you explore.

The gameplay is very fun. I especially liked the upgrade system for the weapons. It kept me playing much longer than I expected to, just to get to the next level for the weapons.

The skill points (used to unlock bonus features) can be difficult to figure out. I'm going to have to look online to see what I need to do to get everything unlocked. A more explicit explanation for each one would have been nice. I like that we can unlock bonus features though. The developers commentary for the various levels is an especially appreciated touch.

The one aspect of the game that I didn't particularly care for is the "Star Fox" sequences, where you use ships to fight in space. I understand that it was meant to break up the gameplay a bit, but it felt unnecessary and wasn't as fun as the other parts of the game.

I'm definitely looking forward to the next game (sequel or expansion doesn't matter) and will buy it the day it comes out.

love this game5
so much fun just like the other ratchet and clanks, this is a great series, I have played the other ones before this and this one if my fav. I can't wait for the new jak and dexter to come out, but i think naughty dog is busy with resistance 2 at the moment, anyone this is one great and funny game!

Sheer Fun for Everyone!5
Being a ratchet and clank fan, i had many expectations for this game before it came out. I expected it to have a great story mode, some good graphics, some great homorous cut scenes, and have the greatest blow up action any game could have. I bought this game 6 ago and played it up. and After trying every feature, every nook and cranny, and beating it a couple thousand times, i have to say, sony has hit the jackpot.

Ratchet and Clank, TOD, has done the best ever to make this a great gaming experience. The graphics are just breath taking. dont get me wrong, the cities and environments in the game look like real things. Insominiac games have definitly can make anyones day through them. The story is just addicting. trust me, 20 minutes in the game and i felt like i was hooked for life. I felt bad that i had to play through the whole game to find out the lombax secret(im not giving any spoilers here) But i came through eventually. the game play is not too hard and not too easy. the characters have definitly been showed some creative thought to make ratchet a thing of the future. the cut scenes have some good humor, mabye not as good as the others, but that can be easily forgiven for and huge ratchet and clank fans.

Story: A+

Graphics: A+++

Humor: B+

Fun: should i have to give it a grade? you would know the answer!

Overall: A++

This game IS the reason to own a ps3 today. it feals like playing in a movie and anyone interested in that would agree with me with this game. Happy playing and happy smashin!

Gets old quickly2
I got this game on a Friday and played it over the weekend. I attended the full Ski School program and started skiing. It was great fun at first, but quickly grew old. The ranking system seems inconsistant in how it tracks your performance. I might get an A one time with few turns, and a D the next saying I needed more turns. The minigames are just ok, but range from super easy to nearly impossible (orienteering). This is one of those games that you might play for awhile, put away, and then take out again every once in awhile. Not an addictive game like Wii Sports.
Also, I appreciate that the Wii is a "Family" game, but with the clear popularity among adults, it might be nice to see less "Cartoonish" characters. Nintendo has got a great thing going here - but they have to keep the interest up.

Really fun5
Our 6 year old son got this for his birthday and he loves playing it! (My husband enjoys it, too!) We were able to start skiing about 5 minutes after getting it out of the box. It's very easy to use and fun, too! We bought a second controller and nunchuck to have even more fun. The split screen, two-player feature makes the skiing really fun for my son and his friends!

The ski school feature allows you to better hone your skills and gives you lots of practice, in case you need it. The different challenges on the ski slopes gives you options for when you want to try new things.

Overall, this is a really fun game. I would definitely recommend it to kids of all ages!

fun little discount title3
While the balance board may not detect front and back movements, this game is much more fleshed out as a game in all other aspects, including control-wise via nunchuck and wiimote.

I've only used it with the wiimote and nunchuck haven't tried it with my Wii Fit balance board yet. But the level of control you have with wiimote and nunchuck surpasses that of just the board. The different kinds of turns, the plow turn and stop, air tricks, parallel turns, tuck (this i loved becuase to tuck you have to rotate your wrists clockwise which you actually do in real skiing to tuck the poles under your arms).

Overall I think it's a nice addition to my wii, it's a fun little game with a surprising amount of control that while not perfect is much more involving that skiing games of yore that utilize just a standard controller.

What is Brain Age?

Brain Age acts like a treadmill for the mind! Brain Age 2: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day for Nintendo DS is a fun, rewarding game that helps you flex your mental muscles with quick activities that help keep your brain in shape. Brain Age is inspired by the research of Dr. Ryuta Kawashima, a prominent Japanese neuroscientist. His studies evaluated the impact of performing certain reading and mathematic exercises to help stimulate the brain.

On your first day of exercise, you will take a series of tests and get a score that determines how old your brain is. This number is called your DS Brain Age. Perform daily exercises just minutes a day over weeks and months to get better at the exercises and lower your DS Brain Age!

Why is brain training good for you?

We all know as we grow older our bodies change and it becomes important to regularly exercise to maintain health and fitness. Our brain is no different. That's where Brain Age comes in.

Dr. Elizabeth Zelinski, dean and executive director of University of Southern California's Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, says games like Brain Age can help keep older generations of Americans' minds active. "Americans can do a great deal to maintain and even improve their mental abilities," Zelinski explains. "Aging is about taking on new challenges for our minds. Nintendo's Brain Age is a great way to do that."

How does Brain Age work?

The Nintendo DS Touch Screen lets you write your answers with a stylus, just as though you were writing on paper. Plus, the Nintendo DS's voice input identifies particular words you'll speak during games like the Stroop Test. Brain Age tracks your progression through each exercise with easy-to-read line charts. Use Brain Age each day to open new exercises to test your ability.

Brain Age includes a fun calculation competition for friends and family—it's a snap to download this minigame to as many as 15 DS systems using only one Brain Age 2 game card!

Challenge yourself and find ways to stay sharp. With the simplicity of the Nintendo DS, and Brain Age's challenging and rewarding exercises, baby boomers and test-prepping kids alike can stimulate their brains!
