As DVD playback made the PlayStation 2 more than just a game machine, hefty multi-media features make the Sony PlayStation 3 an even more versatile home entertainment machine. Features such as video chat, Internet access, digital photo viewing, and digital audio and video will likely make it the central component of your media set-up. Still, it is first and foremost a game console--a powerful one at that. Now you can own this powerful console and start playing the most anticipated game of the year, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, right out of the box!

Under the Hood of the PS3
The PS3 features IBM's "Cell" processor and a co-developed Nvidia graphics processor that makes the system able to perform two trillion calculations per second. That's approximately 320 times more calculations per second than the PS2. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, it also boasts an HDMI port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TV and projectors. The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience.

Bundled Playstation 3 Includes

  • 80GB Hard Drive
  • Voucher for a free download of the Pain minigame from the PlayStation Store
  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots game included
  • Dualshock 3 Rumble Wireless Controller
Snake is Back!
Still the best man for the job
Continued Engrossing Storyline

Playstation 3 Features
  • Blu-Ray is the New Way
Sony's PlayStation 3 games are encoded onto the Blu-Ray disc media format, which can hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. This increase in capacity--combined with the awesome power of its processor and graphics card--promises mind-blowing games once developers have learned how to fully harness the new console's power. The PS3 will also support CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. In addition, PlayStation 3 system software update version 2.20 and up includes BD Live support. With this you can now play discs that support Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE) and you can also connect to the Internet while playing discs that support this format so that you can obtain additional features. Features that are available vary depending on the software in use.

  • The Dualshock 3 Rumble Wireless Controller
The Dualshock 3 Rumble wireless controller for the PlayStation 3 system provides the most intuitive game play experience with pressure sensors in each action button and the inclusion of the highly sensitive SIXAXIS motion sensing technology. Each hit, crash and explosion is more realistic when the user feels the rumble right in the palm of their hand. It can even detect natural movements for real-time and high precision interactive play, acting as a natural extension of the user’s body. Dualshock 3 wireless controller utilizes Bluetooth technology for wireless game play and the controller’s USB cable to seamlessly and automatically charge the controller through the PlayStation 3 system at anytime.
  • Plays All PlayStation Games
The PlayStation 3 will be backward compatible with PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, which means you'll be able to play all your favorite games without keeping all the old systems. The console will have slots for Memory Stick Duo, an SD slot and a Compact Flash memory slot. It comes with a pre-installed hard disc drive, which allows you to save games as well as download content from the Internet.
  • Included in this bundle Metal Gear Solid 4!
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, is a next-gen experience complete with top-of-the-line graphics and surround sound designed for the Sony PlayStation 3. Featuring the most revealing display of Kojima Production's premier title, MSG4 details the world where Snake must under go his final mission. In a world overrun by private military companies (PMCs), wars are no longer fought over nations or ideologies. Instead, the wars of the future are micro-managed by overarching PMCs, right down to the bullet. New gadgets and abilities fuel Snake's journey deep into the enemy domains of the Middle East, South America, and beyond. New gear includes "Metal Gear Mk. II," the ultimate reconnaissance tool, and "Solid Eye," which gives Snake real-time information on enemies and his surroundings. Joined by a familiar cast of characters, Snake must once again return to the battlefield to confront his lifelong rival, Liquid Ocelot, who is manipulating the world's wars from the one world where soldiers will always have a place. But Liquid Ocelot is not the only one who will be able to manipulate the world's wars--Snake can destabilize opposing forces by working behind the scenes, supporting the local militia as they fight PMCs, creating a smokescreen that allows Snake to move freely within the war-zone.
  • Online
Sony has stated that the PS3 will have similar online connectivity and services as the next generation of Xbox Live. Calling it "an always on, always connected device," SCEI's chief technical officer Masa Chatani said the PS3 would be constantly in touch with a "PlayStation World" network "fundamentally based on community, communication commerce, and content." Technically, the infrastructure is there to make that connection. The PS3 supports 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T Ethernet, as well as IEEE 802.11 b/g wireless networking protocols.

Gaming for the older/young generations...5
I just bought this in the past few weeks just for the simple fact that I bought a new 52" Sony Bravia television and I wanted a blu-ray player to go with it. Boy was I in for a surprise! The game metal gear is not a game I have played for years but the graphics alone made this game one of my favorites of all time. I also own a wii, which now collects lots of dust and only my younger girls play the wii anymore. I've been a gamer for years and this is the console for the 20-and-up crowd. The wii is fun, but for pure gaming, the PS3 has no comparison. The 1080p graphics and BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY of PS2 games is also a huge plus! The only negative I have had with this console is that it does run hot, so don't enclose it in anything like a cabinet or anything. It puts out massive amounts of heat due to that cell processor running. Have not had any problems with overheating or anything, but stuff was getting warm that was placed around it. But overall, you will not be disappointed in this console. Now, off to try out Madden 09 on this....I can't wait!

If you are looking to purchase a PS3, this bundle is the only sensible way to go.5
-The System-
The loaded PS3 the comes in this bundle performs great, is very quiet, and has been kind to all of my disks thus far. It can run a little bit warm at times, but certainly cooler than my old ps2 gets after a few hours of play. The controllers are great, and have plenty of life to them (I played on one controller for almost 12 hours and never got a low battery warning). Blue Ray movies look great as well. The additional media ports are great as well, making it easy for me to upload photos and such with an SD card or thumb drive. The internal wi-fi capability works fine for me, even though the system is one floor below my wireless access point.

-The Game-
Metal Gear Solid 4 is the final piece to the extensive saga that is Metal Gear. The story moves quickly, can be confusing at times, and is quite long-winded. These aspects of the game are par for the course, however, and fit well with the overall presentation of the game, which is that of an interactive movie more often than not. MGS fans will notice that there is more attention on action in this title than in previous ones, but by no means does that mean the game shouldn't be considered "firmly seated" in the stealth genre. Kojima and Co. also made great efforts to mix things up for the player at several points in the game. Taking a break from sneaking around for 3 hours is nice. The graphics are absolutely fantastic, and take full advantage of the PS3's capabilities.

-The Bundle-
This bundle is a great value. You get an upgraded controller (dualshock 3) which I MUCH prefer to the plain Six-axis, solid HDD space (I upgraded mine, but 80gb is fine for regular users), a GREAT (I repeat) GREAT game, emulated backward compatability (I like being able to play my ps2 favorites without having to keep my old ps2 around), a stronger internal chipset (90nm), and extra media ports to boot. The tricked out ps3 is worth $500 alone IMO, all of the extras will pretty much seal the deal for anyone who hasn't already bought a PS3.

Replace my 360 with a PS35
PS3 Pros
-On the PS3 online gaming is Free. They are not charging you 50 bucks a year so you can play online. Should be free in the first place.
-Bluray Player included
-Upconverting to 1080P assuming you have a Full HD TV and use HDMI
-7.1
-No advertising all over the dashboard like MS does
-No Overheating
Now most of the games that are coming out on the xbox360 are coming on the PS3
-You can upgrade your drive (you must use a SATA laptop hard drive. 5400 RPM is recommended as the firmware sets the read write access speed)
-It is Quiet
-Don't have to buy a wireless adapter it comes with it. almost 100 bucks for the xbox 360
-The unit can read xvid and divx.
-Controller Rumbles. Just make sure you have patched your games. (without the patch the controller doesn't rumble if you play Resistance).
-The graphics are as good as the one's on thexbox360 (if not better). As matter of fact I'm not a convert I'm just going with what is better for my wallet and gives me more. With the latest firware the PS3 really delivers. IT is only going to get better.
AND THE BEST FOR THE LAST
It comes with Folding@home. Love that feature

Cons: My PS3 does about everything but doesn't wash my dishes. Sigh

I sold my 360 because that piece of junk died on me after 6 months. Had to ship it back to ms and was without a console for a month. Bought a second one and that one died too.
I'm so done with the 360. I had some great moment on the xbox dont get me wrong but it is time to move on.
Too much advertising on the dashboard...anoying.
For the people paying the 50 bucks it should be advertising free.

Customer Reviews

Rock Band Drum Set4
The game itself is ridiculously fun. The drum kit pedal needs to be reinforced however. After a few weeks of stomping, it will crack. There are plenty of aftermarket metal replacements for this problem. The new drum kit is rumored to have a metal foot pedal.

I look forward to the Rock Band 2 kit and to the Guitar Hero World Tour kit as I use this every day. I'm completely addicted.

Customer Reviews

This actually kills the batteries!1
When I first got my 360 in 2006, I picked up 2 of these, and used them often. When I had the controllers plugged into the system with them, I noticed something.

A lot of times, after I turned off my console, the fans on the console would keep running if I had one of the play and charge kits plugged in. I thought it was just continuing to charge the controller. Little did I know, it was actually draining them.

In less than 6 months... neither of the batteries I got with the play and charge kits held a charge at all. These are bad news and a waste of money. The Xbox 360 Quick Charge Kit is a much better investment. I have been using this since then and have had no problems with it at all. Not to mention it charges the batteries much more quickly.

It's a little more expensive, but well worth it.

Reliable yet slightly disillusioned4
This product works GREAT! It recharges and lets me play without giving me lag or trouble. The only negative hit on it is that I bought it with the understanding that when I plug it in, I can turn my controller from wireless to wired. Using this thought, I thought maybe I might be able to use my wireless remote to play my games on my computer too. Unfortunately, when I plugged it in, it did not work. The wire is only used to charge the remote. I still have to get the wireless adapter to be able to use it on my computer. I thought that just by plugging it in, I could use it like a regular remote control. Oh well. At least it recharges when it's attached to my computer.

No more batteries!5
Great product, works fine. You already know what it is and how it works, so just buy it if you want it.

Customer Reviews

I likes.4
Fighter graphics have improved, yet can't say the same thing about stages and background. They look and feel dull.

Vader certainly makes his presence felt. Nice addition to the line up.

I don't care for single player modes, I just use them to make gold to unlock stuff. Didn't enjoy it in other games, not enjoying it here. If I wanted to watch CGI, I would have bought MGS4.

Multiplayer is another story. With these graphics and fighters the game has no equal. Especially if you master Vader. I usually play offline with my friends. They love it, I love it, end of story.

If you liked it before, you will like it again. You can always try it before you buy it. Recommended, highly.

In love with this game5
This game has been so much fun and I just got it. I love the graphics and the movement. They did make the game more sexual like dead or alive but its still worth playing; especially online. There arent many new things from the old games but it doesnt matter. I guess they felt, why fix it if it isnt broken. People want more more more and that is their main complaint. I'm happy with what I have in this game and will be playing it for quite some time.

Hm. I don't suppose it's too bad..4
Well, all in all it took me about 22 hours to get 30 honors and unlock every bonus character, which, as far as I know, equates to unlocking everything there is to unlock.. So it's a very short game..

And as for the character creation, there are some new items, but a vast majority is re-used from SC3, and I think there are actually fewer items total. And as other reviews say, it usually comes down to a choice between useful stats or bearable appearance. I love the new skin tone coloring options, I can get my ideal shades. Also, the option to sculpt body type is a definate bonus.

The graphics are wonderful, as good as you'd expect from this series. I've never been an expert of the game's physics engine, so I can't tell you how the intricasies compare, but in my opinion it's a little easier for me to be successful in this game. In SC3, I occasionally struggled on Easy, but in 4 I can do respectable (sometimes ^_^;) against even Edge Master.

I miss the extra modes, like Battle Theatre and Weapon Demonstrations..

It's got improvements in graphical quality, while a decrease in content leads me to write this game off, overall, as eye candy with low replay value.

Customer Reviews

Not to be missed for RPG fans5
Final Fantasy IV DS is a complete remake of what many American gamers know as Final Fantasy II for the SNES. IV was the first 16-bit FF game, and the story was more detailed, the characters more complex, and the graphics and sound more believable than ever before. The DS version keeps the complex and interesting story intact (with a better translation) and features vastly improved character and location graphics in a 3D world. This portable RPG holds its own against anything available for the DS/PSP and is a must-play for fans of Final Fantasy or those looking for a story-driven RPG. It is better than both previous reissues (GBA and PSX), because they were ports with minimal new features, and the Playstation version had long load times.

There are many plot twists that keep the player moving onward in uncovering the story details and defeating the ultimate enemy. Dark Knight Cecil starts as a pawn of the enemy, and ultimately weaves through a complex tale to redemption, while saving the world from a great evil. The supporting characters are some of the most memorable in Final Fantasy history, even more so because the player has no control over scripted events that decide who gets to be in your party. I loved FF VI (6) also, but some of the characters were non-essential to the story. In IV (4), every character has a purpose, and sometimes they show up to help out unexpectedly.

I'm about halfway through the DS version and it is both a nostalgic trip and a genuinely good RPG that paved the way for greats such as FF VII. I hope that Square Enix continues the remake trend with enhanced versions of FF VI and VII on modern consoles.

Hey square, if it ain't broke don't fix it!3
Ok first of all i've beaten FFIV at least ten times over the years since the Snes days so i consider myself very familiar with the series. First of all i'll start with the bad. Square raised the difficulty of the game significantly, and some of the boss battles will have you pulling your hair out. It personally takes alot of the fun out of a game that i've enjoyed for years. Again, i'm an rpg veteran, i'm used to grinding levels to beat a boss so i expect a certain level of difficulty but this was a bit much.

With the good, i don't really have to say much, you can look at a screenshot and tell the improvement in graphics and gameplay, though they added a few new skills that add a little more customization to the game.

Overall if you loved the old RPG's from the super nes era or if you are a final fantasy fan, you'll probably pick this up, but i didn't see the point in square adding so much difficulty and frustration to an already great game. I've still had alot of fun with this game, but i've used about every swear word in the book during a few boss battles.

A great remake5
I've played all of the other remakes Final Fantasy IV (actually, I think I own them all as well.) I have to say that this one is the only one since the first remake that really changed much. The 3D graphics are really nice, and the voice acting makes the game feel more modern. The biggest change, however, is the challenge. I remember plowing through the first part of the game without stopping. In the previous versions, one didn't need to stop progressing to level the characters until after the village of Myst. This version is way different! Even the battles in the beginning can wipe the group! Any hard core Final Fantasy fan will likely be very happy with this. Also, anyone that hasn't had the pleasure to play one of the other versions of this game should pick it up and experience one of the best Final Fantasy titles ever made!
