As Bad As They Say1
I love Jillian, and her workout DVDs are wonderful. However, the best part about this wii game is the cover art (her hair and makeup look great). To start out, the game itself looks bad, especially when compared to oh, ANY Wii or Xbox game ever. Ironically, part of the game title is '2009' when the graphics reminded me of Castlevania- for the original Nintendo. Also there are so many feature that you WISH were there, but aren't. You can enter your weight, for example, but you can't modify what your body looks like- nor does the game adjust for your weight entered- there is only one body type choice (thin, fit). You CAN choose the outfit, but as other reviews have stated, when you choose the pink color for your tee shirt, it turns GREEN instead. Really??? This is a classic example of rushing a cheap production to bank on a celebrity name and counting on pre-orders to make a ton of money before everyone figures out the game is crap. I promise you that this is a bad, bad game. The only positive is that I did break a sweat and yes by following the instructions, you are getting a cardiovascular workout. However, I can't imagine anyone wanting to pop in this game every morning.

What a let-down!!1
Like many of the other reviewers, I could not WAIT to try this game! I love Wii Fit but was super excited for something more challenging to come out. HUGE LET-DOWN!!!!

--While I agree that the avatars and graphics quality do not help you lose weight...seriously? No blondes? And I have to look at these horrible trees throughout my entire "run?"

--Whats with the run anyways? It took me forever to figure out that if you shimmy on your balance board and swing your arms, you are "running." And if you get bored of the "running," its too bad b/c there is no exit mode out of any of the exercises.

--The instructions are horrible and the reaction time is even worse. I still have not figured out how to punch the punching bag. I spent that portion (since I could not exit) just doing freestyle punches and feeling like an idiot...a shame too b/c thats my favorite part of Wii Fit.

--You are supposedly being measured, but your character will complete any of the events with or without you. I gave up trying to figure out the log balance thing (what was the point of that??)...well my character just kept walking, all while Jillian cheered me on that she couldn't have done it better herself.

I could go on and on. Basically I wish I would have saved my money and hit the gym this weekend rather than fight with this worthless game. BUYER BEWARE!

Not too bad, but could have been better4
It wasn't great, but it wasn't too bad. I played on the fat burning easy and medium for fifteen minutes today, so take that into account with my review.

I enjoyed what I got to do. Many people have commented that the characters aren't as customizable as hoped, but you can at least pick a few things to change about your avatar. The wii remote wasn't as responsive as it should have been, but it might get you to swing your arms a bit more than normal to get it to show up on the screen.

My main complaint is some of the exercises aren't really clear. It's not too specific if I should be on the board or not and how to do some of them. I'm not super sure if all of my exercises got recorded today which is a little problematic.

I'm really happy that I got to exercise for a set amount of time because that was one of the hardest things about Wii Fit. Overall, I didn't find it too bad.

Amazon.com Product Description
When it comes to music and rhythm games, Wii Music stands in a class of its own. Unlike other music games, which penalize players if they don't play perfectly, Wii Music is a musical playground where there are no mistakes. Here anyone can pick up and master the huge array of instruments available, through simple motions like strumming and drumming. Musicians in your band jam by simply playing their instruments to the beat of a song or by improvising to their heart's content. Play faster. Play slower. Skip a beat, or throw in 10 more. No matter what you do, Wii Music automatically transforms your improv stylings into great music.

Gameplay: Getting Your Band Together
In Wii Music every band has six members: Two play the main melody, two cover the percussion beats, one covers the bass groove and one uses the song's chords to support the melody. As a band, the six members often play their special parts at the same time, though each player can jam however and whenever he or she wants. Play all at once. Take turns in the spotlight. Pair up in creative ways throughout the song. You can bring the band to life by yourself, playing one part at a time-or with up to four players. See game mode below:

  • Solo Play: When you play by yourself, you can add one part at a time to arrange the whole song exactly how you want. The Tutes are on hand to back up your band in any parts you need filled.
  • Multiplayer: When in a band with friends, up to four people can be band members.
  • Wii Friends: Using WiiConnect24, you can send your jam videos to Wii Friends who own Wii Music. They can then watch your performance, modify it to their liking and send their jam videos back to you.
Tutes: Your Own Private Back-up Band
When not playing with friends, you can invite jam masters known as Tutes to play with you. They'll join a session playing an instrument that each thinks is strong for a specific song. You can simply enjoy the musical camaraderie, or pick up instrument tips by watching them jam. If you choose to watch, the Tutes will show you lots of techniques for many of these instruments, then ask you to follow their examples. They'll start with the simplest techniques, then as you master each one, show you even more nuanced ones.

Key Game Features:

  • Easy to Play Improv Jams - All members of your band jam by simply playing their instruments to the beat of a song or by improvising to their heart's content. Play faster. Play slower. Skip a beat, or throw in 10 more. Wii Music challenges you to transform your improv stylings into great music. There are no mistakes and no game scores-just playing for the pure joy of playing.
  • Wii Controls Immerse You in the Music - You can play most of the 60-plus instruments in Wii Music using simple motions with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers. Strum to play guitar, banjo and sitar. Drum to play jazz drums, congas and snare drums. Hammer away to play piano, vibraphone and marimba. Unlike most music games, Wii Music doesn't make you use many complex buttons. You only need to imitate playing the instrument.
  • Virtually Endless Ways to Make Music - You choose the song and instruments and decide whether to blaze through a rock take on classical songs, put a jazzy spin on folk tunes or transform Nintendo classics like the Super Mario Bros. theme into Latin-flavored numbers. The song list is only a takeoff point-it's how you improvise with the songs that matters.
  • Share Your Band Jams With Friends - They'll see your Mii band members, your players' improv styles and your instrument selections. They can watch your recordings, or play over parts of your song, then send their modified recording back to you. So you can send improv jams back and forth over WiiConnect24, changing them again and again.
60+ Instruments
You can play most of the 60-plus instruments in Wii Music using simple motions with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers. Strum to play guitar, banjo and sitar. Drum to play jazz drums, congas and marching drums. Hammer away to play piano, vibraphone and marimba. Unlike most music games, Wii Music doesn't make you use complex buttons. You only need to imitate playing the instrument. Wii Music offers virtually endless ways to make music.

Fun Beyond the Jam
Designed with classic Wii gameplay in mind, Wii Music includes many other modes and play options besides the main band jams, including several musical games and an enhanced video playback mode for recorded jams.

  • Videos Mode: Watch your jam videos in an enhanced playback mode that brings your jams to life with fun environmental effects and dramatic camera angles.
  • Mii Maestro: By waving the Wii Remote like a conductor's baton in this mini-game, you'll lead a Mii orchestra through orchestrated songs, such as The Legend of Zelda theme. Make them play quickly, slowly, strongly or gently-the orchestra is at your command.
  • Handbell Harmony: In this musical mini-game, you'll play in a handbell ensemble by swinging your Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Everyone on the team has a job to do: play one of your notes only when the tune demands it.
  • Pitch Perfect: How good is your musical ear? In this whimsical musical quiz, you'll have to solve challenges, like putting note-playing Miis in order from lowest to highest pitch.
  • Drum Mode: In the one mode that uses the Wii Balance Board accessory (sold with Wii Fit), you can feel what it's like to play a real-life drum set. You'll use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as drumsticks, and place both feet on the Wii Balance Board-which work as virtual pedals for the bass drum and hi-hat cymbal.

Customer Reviews

Muuuuusic!4
I'm 17 years old and bought Wii Music with high expectations.

At first, I thought the game was extremely boring and didn't really offer much to keep me occupied for hours. The only thing I really enjoyed was conducting.

THEN I played with my friends and it became great! It's hilarious to play in the Jam Sessions with friends, and I think it's a great way to laugh together as well.

Perfect for all age groups, Wii Music offers plenty of replay value with endless combinations of instruments.

A must-have for the Wii!

Musical Creativity with Limitless Potential (With Minor Issues)4
I love the recent string (no pun intended) of musical games coming out from Guitar Hero to Rock Band. Problem is, those kits are flippin' expensive and I'm not too keen on storing either plastic guitars or bulky drum sets. Don't get me wrong, I own them anyway but lugging them to a friend's house is no fun task.

Enter Wii Music.

Wii music is pantomime meets Rock Band. The bulk of the game revolves around the player mimicking gestures to simulate sound according to the actual song being played as the notes are hit automatically unless the player's timing is off. The player does this up to six different instruments to simulate melody, bass, percussion etc. When the player is done, he or she can make a CD jacket to label the track and make a music video of it. On top of this, there are three minigames.

1: Wii Conductor. Move your arms similar to a conductor to make an orchestra go.
2: Hand bells like the ones some people use in Christmas musicals or church services.
3: Music quiz thingy similar to the memorization game on Wii Play.

That's it! That is, in a nutshell, the entire game.

While the game itself is simplistic, that is also the idea. Nintendo, in it's grand scheme of marketing to the casual gaming audience, has created a very simple, yet elegant, game to allow the player to easily mimic music without real lessons or going nuts while trying to play Through the Fire and Flames on Guitar Hero 3. In doing so, Nintendo has appealed to anyone who desires a musical experience but either A) doesn't have the time to master easy, medium, hard, and extreme mode and/or B) does not have at least $80 to spend on a Guitar Hero set. All that is needed is at least one full Wii remote and nunchuck set although more sets with more players make it more fun.

While up to six instruments may participate in a song, only four players can go at a time although this does not mean the player can record tracks for all six instruments. This means four people at a time can go nuts with over 60 instruments including cowbell (which we all know we need more of), a DJ turntable, recorder, flute, sitar, and much more.

This game is very addicting. My graduate students friends are playing the game in my apartment as I type this, not only having a blast but hogging the darn TV in the process. They're hooked on Ode to Joy, which we arranged with sleigh bells, a flute, and a clarinet. When working on my thesis for more than five hours at a time gnaws at my brain, I love saddling up the Wii and playing Twinkle Twinkle on the piano.

Now, with all the goodies in Wii Music there are a few drawbacks especially with the sound and selected songs. Unlike Guitar Hero, Wii Music's musical selection is mostly derived from the public domain track list. This means it's very generic songs like Twinkle Twinkle, Yankie Doodle, Ode to Joy, and Swan Lake. This constitutes the bulk of the soundtrack. There are a few good licensed songs like September by Earth, Wind, and Fire along with Loco-Motion. The real songs that everyone bought Wii Music to play are the Nintendo mixes like Legend of Zelda and the Mario Bros Theme Song. Unfortunately, there are only seven Nintendo songs and of that only three are any good (the aforementioned two and F Zero Mute City).

The soundtrack could have been soooo much better even with more licensed songs by Nintendo such as Castlevania, Star Fox, Metroid, and Paperboy. Anything would've been better than the ragtag bunch of songs from Europe that were used. Not to mention they could've used some greater public domain songs like Greensleeves or Battle Hymn of the Republic.

The next con is the sound itself. While the majority of the woodwinds and drums sound magnificent, several other instruments do not. The most notable bad sounding instruments are the trumpet, saxophone, violin, and viola. Don't even get me started on the more... interesting instruments like the cheerleader, the black belt, cat and dog suit, and the rapper. Those wacky things seemed to have carried over from Mario Paint despite a 15 year gap. While having an all-male cheerleading squad sing the Legend of Zelda theme song was disturbingly amusing, I would never be so bold as to show that in public.

The only other cons are basic Nintendo ones such as the use of weird instructional characters. The Maestro instructor looks and talks like a more flamboyant homosexual version of Beaker from the Muppets. The other issue is how the remote distinguishes movement for the cursor and that of the instrument itself. It can get very annoying but I find that if I want to switch, just hold the remote in front of the TV for two seconds and the cursor switches over from the instrument.

All in all, Wii Music is a really fun game for the whole family and your friends if you've consumed enough alcohol... seriously. I give it a solid A- as it fully utilizes the Wii interface but lacks in some sound and musical selection issues. It's too bad you can't really go heavy metal... *sigh* party on Wayne!

This is a good game5
I think that this game is very good for any age group because of its variety of different instruments that appeal to different audiences. When I played it with my children they loved it. My older child loves it and so does my kid in college. I think its a great buy that has many hours of playing time in it

Good deal if You buy from Amazon Direct5
I have bought a few of these before at Target, for 14.99 onsale, but buying on Amazon directly from them is the best deal as long as you go for two or something else with them to get the free shipping. Depending on what state you are in there is no tax. So if that's the case it's a straight shot at 15.97 which is a nice deal. So many great games have come out on XBL lately you really are missing out on gems if you don't buy some of these AAA + arcade titles like Braid, Castle Crashers, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Geometry Wars 2. Plus a bunch more coming soon, and others if you have never bought any from the past.

The Xbox Live Arcade is a big part of the 360 experience, if you are not taking advantage of it you are missing out on a lot of the best original games to ever come out anywhere. Plus so many great remakes and updates to old classic games. Don't miss out on XBLA, if you have never bought points before it's not a big deal, just don't do anything foolish, like scratching off your code by rubbing too hard. Also buy these from Amazon or true retailers, not from Amazon Market place. To avoid some of the not so funny horror stories I have read here. If you follow those simple rules you will be fine, and will be enjoying a new way to get great original games you can't find anywhere else.

Essential for anybody using Xbox Live3
Microsoft "points" are essential to anybody using Xbox Live. Points are needed to download Xbox Live Arcade titles, Xbox Originals titles, add-on map packs, movies, videos, and music. Gamers connected to Xbox Live will eventually want to purchase additional content, so points will be required.

The 1600 Points card makes it easy to add points to any Xbox Live Gamertag account. Simply enter the 25-digit code on the console or on the website, and the points are added to the user's account, ready for immediate use. No credit cards or other information is required.

Points cards make excellent gifts for Xbox 360 gamers. They also make it easy for parents to budget points allocation and spending over a period of time. Points will also expand the functionality of the console, by allowing the gamer access to more content.

Unlike the plastic cards of the past, the newer cards are completely cardboard, with a tear-away strip that exposes the 25-digit number. Once used, instead of tossing away the plastic card, the cardboard card can now be recycled. Unfortunately, the plastic packaging seems excessive, which is my only major citicism of this item.

The Wonder of Xbox Live5
XBox Live is wonderful! I'm going to get more of these bad boys and get a 4000 points card or two.

Any way, XBox Live Arcade had a ton of great games I wanna download and a lot of content I want to try on my disc games!

Good addition to my "Wii fitness Set" aka "Wii Fit and Wii DDR"4
If you wanted to burn more calories go with Active Life. Unlike Wii Fit, you are required to jump and run faster (considering that you cannot jump on the balance board). DDR can only compete if you play in difficult mode.

I think this will get played more by the kids then Wii Fit.5
I got the game before the kids were home from school and played the whole 2 hours till the they got home. I loved it, got all sweaty. The games are simple and more fun and active feeling then Wii Fit. Much more jumping and running and just moving your whole body. So far there seems to be enough variety to keep interest.

I really like that it is easy to change between people. We have lots of kids over of different sizes and it is so frustrating when they are taking turns and to have to change Mii's for each child's weight on Wii Fit. Active Live Outdoor Challenge is very easy just maybe 5 back buttons and choose new Mii and it's changed. Wii Fit is a pain and most times not worth the hassle. So nobodies stats are truly theirs.

Yes Wii Fit keeps track of weight and does strength exercises and yoga so it would be better for working out and keeping track of real exercise. This but this is more fun, for myself and the kids. It is not formal feeling like the Wii Fit, just body moving games. And NO LECTURING from the game.

The only problem I see is that the two players have to share the mat and they have to be pretty close. I would bet money someone in my family (the 7 yr old) will get knocked down and get all mad. But it has plenty of two player games, better then Wii Fit.

PS I have not been able to get back on the game since the kids got home. :o)

Great exercise!5
I'm not a kid. In fact I'm almost 60 and I bought the game for myself after getting Wii Fit a couple weeks ago and really enjoying the games that are included with that.

I LOVE this game (or series of small games) If you want a good workout and you're a kid at heart, you're going to love Outdoor Challenge. I've only played it by myself so far but I can tell you that it works every part of your body. I was dripping with sweat after 10 minutes. Some of the games you do standing, or I should say running in place and jumping over logs or jumping on a trampoline over water or jumping rope. There's a Mine Cart game where you're leaning to the side and lifting one foot while pumping both hands up and down to propel the cart at ever faster speeds. Or sitting on the mat and rowing with the "paddle" (wiimote) trying to get to the goal as fast as you can.

Like the Wii Fit games, it keeps track of your scores and the scores of others that play so you are constantly trying to beat your best scores and get top scores in the games.

This game is too much fun to waste on kids. Get it for yourself! It'll make you laugh out loud!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Product Description

The next chapter in the Star Wars saga, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, tells the story of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice, a mysterious figure trained by the menacing Sith Lord, to hunt down the last of the Jedi. Set in the dark times between Episodes III and IV, the story is both a continuation of the prequel trilogy -- exploring the aftermath of Order 66, which called for the immediate execution of all Jedi, and focusing on the continued rise of Darth Vader -- and a direct bridge to the Original Trilogy. The Force Unleashed will forever change the fate of the Galaxy and explain key plot points that directly lead into events in Star Wars: A New Hope. With The Force Unleashed , LucasArts not only introduces a new chapter in the Star Wars saga, but also two completely new and innovative technologies -- Digital Molecular Matter by Pixelux Entertainment and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd. These groundbreaking technologies combine with Havoc physics to create true next-gen game play and the Force like it's never been seen or experienced before.

The Star Wars saga will continue in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a videogame developed by LucasArts, which casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

As its name implies, The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force by taking full advantage of newly developed technologies that will be seen and experienced for the first time: Digital Molecular Matter (DMM), by Pixelux Entertainment, and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd. Paired with the powerful Havok Physics™ system, these new technologies create gameplay only possible on the new generation of consoles. DMM incorporates the physical properties of anything in the environment so that everything reacts exactly like it should - wood breaks like wood, glass shatters like glass, plants on the planet Felucia bend like plants on the planet Felucia would, and more. Meanwhile, as a revolutionary behavioral-simulation engine, euphoria enables interactive characters to move, act and even think like actual human beings, adapting their behavior on the fly and resulting in a different payoff every single time.

Game Features:

  • During the period between Episodes III and IV, players hunt Jedi in the role of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice.
  • Unleash and upgrade the Secret Apprentice's four core Force powers - Force push, grip, repulse and lightning - throughout the course of the game, and combine them for ultra-destructive, never-before-seen combos.
  • Examples of unleashing the Force in ways never thought possible:
    • The Secret Apprentice won't just Force push enemies into walls - he'll Force push enemies through walls.
    • The Secret Apprentice won't just Force grip foes to throw them aside - he'll Force grip them in midair, zap them with lightning, then drop them to the ground to explode like a bomb.
  • In addition to new adversaries created just for the game, such as fugitive Jedi and Force-sensitive Felucians, players will also confront and associate with familiar faces from the Star Wars films, including Darth Vader.
  • Visit locations such as Episode III's Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk and the floral Felucia, the junk planet Raxus Prime, plus an Imperial TIE fighter construction facility.
  • The Force Unleashed is LucasArts' first internally developed title for next-generation consoles, and it represents the first in-game collaboration of talents and technology between LucasArts and Industrial Light & Magic, two companies now finally under one roof at the new Letterman Digital Arts Center in San Francisco's Presidio district.
  • The Force Unleashed debuts Digital Molecular Matter from Pixelux and euphoria behavioral simulation from NaturalMotion Ltd.
  • LucasArts is preparing an unprecedented promotional effort around the launch of The Force Unleashed, encompassing a full line of toys and game-based action figures from Hasbro, as well as a full publishing program from Dark Horse, Del Rey and Palace Press.
