Has a few things wrong.
OK, I agree - the camera angles and stuff are bad at times.
But, My 5 yr old loves it. We have the Star Wars Lego game and this one might not be as good as it.....but we still like it. Have had a good time as a family doing the "treasure hunts" (as my son calls them). We have learn to work well as a family with it when playing in 2 player mode.
I will be ready for Batman when it comes out!
It's better than a pit full of snakes... much better.
For anyone who has played the LEGO Star Wars games, you already know what to expect with LEGO Indiana Jones and you know already whether or not you like the game. It's more of the same with a different theme, which is good as far as I'm concerned. The big difference is there is more platforming and puzzle solving and slightly less combat. The difficulty level has also been ratcheted up a notch or two, which I also see as a good thing.
For everyone else who hasn't played the previous LEGO adventure games, here's the scoop. The game has three adventures based off of each of the original three Indiana Jones films. Except everything is made with LEGOs instead. Each adventure has six levels. Gameplay primarily consists of platforming and puzzle solving with a fair mix of beat-up-style combat to spice things up. The game supports one or two players who can play in co-op mode at any time. All that needs to happen is a second player picks up the controller and jumps into the action. Players have an infinite number of lives, so it's pretty easy to slog through the game even if you aren't that good at it. That isn't to say that the game isn't challenging because there are some tough puzzles and jumps gamers are expected to make, but you'll eventually get through everything without seeing a GAME OVER message because you can keep trying over and over until you succeed. This makes it a perfect family game where younger children can play alongside an adult without experiencing much frustration. In one-player mode, the computer takes control of the other character, which the player can switch to at any time.
The Good:
* Intuitive gameplay. Pretty much anybody can pick the controls up and adventure like a pro within minutes.
* Drop-in Co-op Gameplay
* Lots of unlockables. The replay value is very high with over 60 unlockable characters and nifty features and modes to unlock.
* Clever and entertaining cut scenes that parallel the movies. Fans of the movies will likely enjoy the humor and the character's personalities have been portrayed very well.
The Bad:
* It's a fairly short story (8-10 hours to complete) if you don't care about unlockable content. Gameplay extends much longer if you try to unlock all the hidden content.
* Enemies frequently have projectiles and you're left with your fists. Expect to get shot when you bring a whip to gunfight.
* The water effects on the Wii version are downright bland for no good reason because the rest of the graphics in the game are pretty solid. The Wii hardware is capable of producing better looking water effects and it's been done before. A minor complaint, but still valid.
* Multi-player camera control is kind of wonky and it's easy to die in some areas because the camera will favor one player over the other. But you since everyone has infinite lives so it isn't much of a problem.
Overall, I highly recommend LEGO Indiana Jones. It's a good family game, fans of the movies should like it, and it's a must-have title if you have enjoyed the other LEGO adventure games. If you have an XBox 360 or a PS3 in your home, you may want to consider buying it for one of those other consoles for the better graphics. Otherwise the gameplay on each of the consoles feels pretty much identical based off my experience with the first few levels.
